We believe everyone should be able to enjoy the freedom of getting outdoors, without hassle, high prices, or needing a garage full of kit. That's why we built Yak Shack, smart outdoor rentals. Simple, safe and fun.
About Yak Shack
Yak Shack is a UK startup modernising outdoor equipment rental. Our compact, autonomous Shacks put the kit people want right where they want it, built for the shift toward automation, rental over ownership, and easy access.
Founded in May 2025, we have moved fast. In September 2025 we launched our first self-serve watersports Shack in Hamble le Rice, Southampton, alongside our web app booking system. By the end of 2025 we had completed a winter season of rentals, collected great feedback, delivered new app updates, won a business grant, featured on national TV, and built ten Shack frames ready for 2026 installs.
2026 has already been busy. We have 6 locations across the country in Scotland, West Sussex, Dorset and Hampshire, with many more in the pipeline. We have seen high usage at every location and continue to gain traction across all media platforms. Most importantly, we launched our reward scheme for litter picking, where customers earn monetary credit for picking up litter, verified through our app.

The Shack
- Compact footprint. Single Shack 1m x 3.6m, Double Shack 2m x 3.6m, with no permanent foundations required.
- Modular design. Bolt multiple units together for easy expansion as demand grows.
- No power source needed, so it works almost anywhere on your site.
- Quick to install and fully removable, leaving no lasting mark on your land.
- Low impact and environmentally conscious by design.
- Smart locks with access codes generated by the Yak Shack app.
Capacity. A Single Shack holds up to 5 paddleboards or 4 kayaks. A Double Shack holds up to 10 paddleboards or 8 kayaks. The mix can be tailored to each location, for example 4 paddleboards, 2 single kayaks and 2 double kayaks.
Coming in 2026. The Surf Shack holds up to 8 surfboards per unit, and the Beach Shack holds up to 20 deckchairs per unit.
We welcome prospective partners to come and try the system for themselves.
Safety
Example hazards and controls
Every location gets its own risk assessment. Here is how we manage some common hazards.

| Waves | The unit automatically closes when forecast swell exceeds a safe height. |
| Fast running river | In-app and onsite warnings tell users not to paddle in the river. |
| High sea wall | Signage warns of the fall risk. |
| Busy road | Warnings ask users to take care when crossing the road. |
A true partnership
Here is exactly who does what, so you know what to expect from day one.
What you do
- Host the Yak Shack unit on your site and keep it accessible to users.
- Carry out weekly checks on the unit. This can be outsourced at your discretion.
- Be the first point of contact for any on site issues or access queries.
- Report any damage or maintenance needs through our app so we can resolve them quickly.
- Promote the Yak Shack to visitors and your local community.
- Maintain the surrounding area, keeping the unit's location clean, safe and welcoming.
What we do
- Supply and install the unit, including equipment and smart locks.
- Cover set up costs, ground rent and any licenses.
- Provide unit insurance and £10m public liability cover.
- Give you software and a maintenance app with backend access, plus ongoing updates and new features.
- Offer ongoing support, proposals, documents and help with landowner or authority calls where needed.
- Drive awareness and bookings with national and local marketing.
- Replace any damaged gear.
- Stay fully flexible. Ask us for anything you need to grow.
